Leather Cap Bear

The Leather Cap Bear is a hand-drawn tribute to queer leather culture and the rugged, charming bear at the center of it. Leather cap, knowing look, unmistakably one of us. This is a design for the guys who know their history — the bears, the leather daddies, the hunky daddies who carry the tradition forward without making a production out of it.

Artist Statement

This design is inspired by queer leather culture and my appreciation for a rugged gay bear. When I was in college, I drew this bear cartoon in a newspaper comic strip representing the college's mascot (the Golden Grizzlies). Here, he sports a hunky leather cap and is posed to pay homage to Tom of Finland's work depicting gay men in leather. It was a nostalgic project for me, and I hope my bear is charming to all the leather folks, grizzly bears, and hunky daddies!
