Certified Hunky: Meet Zach!

There’s a lot more to Zach than meets the eye—and trust me, you’ll want to meet him. This Colorado-based adventurer has been a toy model, a political candidate, and even a movie extra. But beyond the fun facts is a heart that beats for kindness, resilience, and community. From transforming his health to hiking with LGBTQ+ friends in the Rockies, Zach brings warmth, authenticity, and joy to everything he touches.

The Questionnaire

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself! What's your name, and where are you from?

A: My name is Zach, and I currently call the beautiful state of Colorado home. I enjoy hiking, nature, travel and adventure! The world has so much to do and see, shouldn't we break out of our comfort zones from time to time? There's a lot more to me than meets the eye. Want 3 fun facts about me? I've run for public office, I was a fisher price toy box model, and I was even an extra in a movie!

Q: What does being a 'Certified Hunky' mean to you?

A: I've been on a journey to love and accept my body no matter the shape it has been in. For those of us that have struggled with that, I am sure they can relate, so the title definitely helps to boost confidence.

However, I think a real Hunk is someone that takes the time to align their physical, & mental wellbeing, being humble, open and accepting of differences and always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Q: What are three things that you are most passionate about?

A: I am passionate about helping others, advocating for treatments of obesity, and my life long fandom of the Buffalo Bills!

Q: How do you express your individuality and authenticity in your everyday life?

A: Adaptability. I believe we never stop growing and changing. If you get new information, asses it, and make a new evaluation, your mindset may change or it may not, at least you took the time. I apply that across everything in my life. When people tell me I'm great, or kind, or something of that nature, my go to response tends to be, "I'm just me."

My goal is to leave the place just a little bit better than I found it. If people remember you for being kind, or nice or taking the time to listen that is a win.

So my openness and personality is how I express myself.

Q: What's a recent achievement or personal milestone that you're really proud of?

A: I have recently completely transformed my health. I have lost over 140 lbs, and previously had been diagnosed with liver disease, and I'm proud to say that recently I have been told that I no longer have signs of the liver disease! Being a large person since my childhood has been a struggle. This achievement has made me feel that I can do anything, and while I am no longer focusing on weight, I am now working on improving my bodies composition so that I can be the healthiest I can be for the longest I can be.

Q: Who is a role model or figure that has inspired you in your journey, and why?

A: I would have to say my dad, even though I didn't know him long. He passed away when I was four years old. The stories that friends, family or even complete strangers have told me, have made me feel like I've gotten to know him, and often told I am a lot like him, including my personality. He was a nurse, and knowing that he too was a caring personality is a rock in my life. Oh, and I'm told we both share large senses of humor!

Q: What do you love most about being part of the LGBTQ+ community?

A: We may be diverse, and sometime separate ourselves by interests or "types" but and the end of the day it is a community that feels like we have each others backs. We learn from each generations struggles and try to make it better for the next.

Q: If you could have a superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?

A: Is joy as superpower? If so I want it everyday. My favorite quote of all time is you treat a disease, you win or you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you'll win, no matter the outcome." The best superpower would be to just help other make the best of the time they have on this planet.

Q: What's one thing you wish more people understood about you?

A: I think often many people see the bright & bubbly & caring side of me. My heart is often on my sleeve and it really hurts when someone abuses my kindness.

Q: How do you stay connected with your friends and community? Do you have any favorite events, clubs, or online spaces?

A: I go out to the bars on occasion, and hike with a good group of my fellow LGBTQ friends, and this Year I am planning to run the Denver pride 5k at the end of June and hoping to raise $1,000 for that event so that the local community can still get access to services at zero or low cost.
