Meet Frank—a bicoastal powerhouse with one foot in San Francisco, the other in Provincetown, and a heart rooted in community, confidence, and cooking. At 60, he’s rewriting the rules of what it means to age vibrantly and visibly as a gay man. Whether he’s reviving classic recipes, diving into TikTok trends, or leading LGBTQ+ advocacy at the CDC, Frank proves that being a Certified Hunky isn’t about fitting in—it’s about showing up as your whole self, hairy chest and all.
The Questionnaire
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself! What's your name, and where are you from?
A: Hi Im Frank. I am a bicoastal gay gay of a certain age. Living in both San Francisco and Provincetown. I'm a coach and mentor, looking at the front end of retirement and what life as a 60 year old, vibrant and active gay man is like. Im a big fan of cooking and working to give new life to old school recipes, always supporting folks tackling new social media technologies that keep us visible and heard.
Q: What does being a 'Certified Hunky' mean to you?
A: It means knowing in yourself that self-confidence and belief is as important as honesty and integrity and walking a path that fits you not one that's prescribed by others
Q: What are three things that you are most passionate about?
A: That's an easy one for me; learning, food, and cooking, and exploring new media technologies
Q: How do you express your individuality and authenticity in your everyday life?
A: I think the best way for me to explain that is the whole antibody stigma platform that I launched into On Tiktok. Refusing to let others dictate how I wear, what I wear of as a man of a certain size and being hairy. And feeling confident that I can wear a speedo as good as anybody else.
Q: What's a recent achievement or personal milestone that you're really proud of?
A: There are times when this question is easy to answer and other times like the moment that it's much more difficult given the state of the world. But I think being the president of the CDC's LGBTQ employee organization merits that
Q: What do you love most about being part of the LGBTQ+ community?
A: For me, it's our history. It's that a community is not defined by one thing. It's a series of small semi connect networks that when they join for a common goal, we form a community of power.
Q: If you could have a superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it?
A: communicating - that I could speak and understand the native language of whoever or what ever I am in the proximity of
Q: What's one thing you wish more people understood about you?
A: While I look like I have a big personality and am extrovert - I am actually shy and more often or not on my own. Needing time to recharge after being on stage or out in public
Q: How do you stay connected with your friends and community? Do you have any favorite events, clubs, or online spaces?
A: book and food clubs are a main source for me.. and tiktok!
